Daily Five

In class we do “Daily Five.” Daily Five has to do with Literacy. We write, read and practice spelling. If you want to find out more about our Daily five we do in class, keep reading and enjoy!

There are four rotations we can choose from in daily five. One rotation is read to self. You grab a book and settle down in one spot and read for the entire time. Read to self might also be known as D.E.A.R. “Drop everything and read.” Usually, each rotation is around 15 minutes. When I read the same book for too long that is a novel, my eyes get tired and my brain starts thinking about something else. That’s when I realize I need a break book. Now when I say break, I  do not mean put your book down and chat with a friend or just sit there and look around, I mean we rest our mind from a difficult book. So when ever you need a break book for a few minutes you should use it. Magazines are a good example of a break book. Before we start read to self we should have a break book with us because then we do not distract our fellow class mates who are doing a rotation when we get up and go get one.

Another rotation is read to someone. To do read to someone, you need a partner. Once you have a partner you will have to grab a book that you are both interested in and want to read for about 15 minutes until the rotation is done. To do read to someone, you find a place to read and then make sure both people can see the book. While one person reads out loud, the other person follows along the page with their eyes. Then you take turns reading out loud. Reading one page each and then switching is good because at the end of the page, the partner who was following along can ask the reader what they read. Read to someone is great because it helps you with fluency and comprehension.

One of my favorite rotations is called word work. In word work, you work a lot with different kinds of words. Long words, short words, nouns, verbs and many more. You might want to get with a partner and give each other mini spelling test and practice words. Or you might want to play a game that involves words. Banana grams is an amazing game for word work because you are doing a crossword puzzle and connecting different words. Word work is lots of fun and a great way to get better at spelling.

The last rotation I am going to talk about is writing. Our teacher in class gave us a notebook that we could wright in. In this notebook, we can right about anything we want to in any way we want to. You just grab the notebook and start writing about what ever. You might right about a sport you play, or your weekend maybe you got a new pet and want to write about it. You can write an essay, a story, maybe you want to keep it short and write a small poem. It does not matter what we right about as long as we try hard. In your writers notebook, you are free to write about anything. Writing is one of my favorite things to do because instead of talking, I can express my self on paper.

What would be your favorite rotation? What would be your least favorite rotation? Can you think a rotation that would be fun but also a good way to learn???

Typing Web

I personally am not very fast at typing. When I was younger, my sister would set me up on a typing web but I never really took it serious because I didn’t think I would need to type when I was older. Now that I am older and type a lot during school and to do presentations on devices, I figured I might as well become faster at typing because I will save time wile maybe making a presentation or story on a computer.  Have you ever bin making an essay on a computer and have bin sitting there for hours, and hours? I definitely have and I do not like it. To become faster at typing, a good website to use will be linked at the bottom of the page… I’ve bin working on it for a wile now and I already feel faster and stronger. The link is only for students, all though, there is another version where everyone can use it. I want to become faster at typing, the question is, “Do you want to be slow? Or faster and stronger at typing?”
